Resources for Regions

The NSW Government introduced the Resources for Regions Program in 2012 to support the infrastructure needs of NSW’s mining-affected communities. The Resources for Regions Program aims to support the ongoing prosperity of mining communities in regional NSW by providing economic opportunities, improved amenity and positive social outcomes.

Following advocacy by Singleton Council, the NSW Government undertook a review of the Resources for Regions program. As a result, a number of recommendations were made, including a guaranteed amount for mining-affected regions calculated on the level of impact, as well as broadening the scope of the program to include community programs in addition to infrastructure projects.

Those recommendations have been incorporated into Round Seven of the Resources for Regions program, which was announced in Singleton by the Deputy Premier John Barilaro on Wednesday 24 June 2020.

As a result of a review of the Resources for Regions program, Singleton Council has a guaranteed $4.5 million in funding under Round Seven of the program this year, dependent on applications for projects meeting eligibility and assessment criteria.

The review has meant that up to 30% of the total available funding may be used for community programs, and further, the guidelines expect councils to work with community groups to identify priority projects and submit applications on behalf of these organisations.

Singleton Council is proud of the strong relationships it has with community groups, and is keen to work with those groups to suggest ideas and develop high-quality applications in accordance with eligibility and assessment criteria.

community groups are required to be rigorous in their suggestions and demonstrate the strategic intent of the idea as well as how it will assist Council to deliver community outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity that allows us all to work together to deliver outcomes that will benefit our entire community, that may otherwise never have been possible. We need you to help to shape our submissions.

We need you to provide the following information:

  • What’s your idea or suggestion
  • Approximate cost (including quotes or evidence of costings)
  • How does it align with Council’s strategic objectives (eg Community Strategic Plan)
  • How will it benefit the community?.

Submissions must be received by Council by 28 July 2020 to allow sufficient time to develop a high-quality application to the Resources for Regions program by 12pm, 2 September 2020.

It must be noted that suggesting an idea to Council is not a guarantee it will progress to application stage, and that applications are not guaranteed for funding under the program.

Council staff are here to help. If you have any questions or require further information, do not hesitate to contact us.
