Local Housing Strategy
We’re planning for the needs of those who call the Singleton local government area home now and into the future with the development of a Local Housing Strategy (LHS).
The Singleton LHS will set the 20-year vision for housing in our local government area, and outline where and how new homes are best to be developed. The LHS is supported by the Singleton Local Strategic Planning Statement 2041 (LSPS), enabling Council to align the vision of our local area with the housing objectives and targets established in the Hunter Regional Plan.
The final LHS will set the 20-year vision for housing in our local government area, and outline where and how new homes are best to be developed. We all want to live in communities where we feel safe, connected and enriched, and the Local Housing Strategy will provide a long-term, strategic approach to address housing needs, affordability and the diversity of supply across our local government area. The LHS will do this by establishing clear and transparent criteria for identifying land appropriate for future supply, and reviewing our Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan to ensure these are fit-for-purpose.
Enabling the sustainable supply of housing for everyone, at all income levels, close to jobs and services is the focus of Council’s draft LHS that will guide the design and delivery of housing in the Singleton area into the future. The draft LHS aims to deliver diverse housing supply close to services, facilities, and infrastructure to meet our growing population over the next 20 years. The key objectives of the draft strategy are to:
- Deliver a strategic approach to housing in our rural housing, urban and ‘lifestyle living’ areas
- Address housing diversity, supply and affordability
- Create well-planned, liveable and sustainable neighbourhoods that meet the needs of the existing and future population
- Minimise land use conflict
An online survey and public engagement surveys will be conducted in October 2021. For more information, click here.
