Rock royalty takes centre stage in a musical author visit to Singleton Library

It’s a long way to the top, but finally the story of legendary rocker Angus Young has made it to bookshelves - and Singleton.

Renowned author Jeff Apter has cast the spotlight on the man best known for his trademark schoolboy outfit in High Voltage: the life of Angus Young - AC/DC’s last man standing and he’ll bring the story to Singleton Library in a special event on Friday 25 May from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Nicole Lonsdale, Singleton Council’s Coordinator Community Services, said it was an exciting addition to the Library’s program of author visits.

“Angus Young is one of the most iconic musicians in the world and the last surviving original member of AC/DC - the biggest rock band on the planet,” she said.

“Jeff Apter’s book is the first biography to focus exclusively on the endurance of Angus, charting his rise from working-class Glasgow and Sydney through to the death of vocalist Bon Scott and the forced retirement of his brother, Malcolm Young.

“I have no doubt there will be a lot of interest in what Jeff Apter has to say about his observations on Angus Young, and the experience of writing the book.”

Ms Lonsdale said Jeff Apter, the author of more than 20 books and who spent four years on staff at Australian Rolling Stone, was himself an interesting speaker.

“Jeff has carved a niche in capturing the stories of musical history, with biographies of the Finn brothers, Johnny O’Keefe, the Bee Gees, Marc Hunter, ‘Shirley’ Strachan, Silverchair and Keith Urban,” she said.

“His knowledge of the Australian music scene and the characters that populate it will make for a very entertaining event and bookings will fill quickly.”

Jeff Apter will be at Singleton Library on Friday 25 May 2018 from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bookings are essential on 02 6578 7500. Copies of High Voltage: the life of Angus Young - AC/DC’s last man standing will be available for sale and signing at the event.
